The Library has a multilingual and multi-format collection that is closely related to the academic and research programs of the University. Materials in the collection are classified according to the Library of Congress Classification Scheme. Presently the collection is categorized as follows:

  1. Open Shelf Collection

    All materials in this collection can be borrowed by library members. Most of the materials are related to the courses taught in the University. However, there are also fiction and light reading materials.

  2. Reference Collection

    Materials in this collection are non-circulating. They serve as reference tools and consist of encyclopedias, dictionaries, enactments, acts, company annual reports etc. All materials have ref/doc/sem prefixed to their call numbers.

  3. Red Spot Collection

    Most items serve as compulsory reading materials. They can be borrowed for two hours or overnight.

  4. Serials Collection

    The collection consists of academic journals, leisure reading magazines, local newspapers, etc. All materials are non-circulating. However, academic staff are allowed to borrow from this collection for a maximum period of 14 days.

  5. Past Examination Papers

    A collection of past examination papers are available for reference and can be borrowed for photocopying purposes. The latest past examination papers are available online in the UTAR Intranet.

  6. Special Collections
  7. The Special collections house valuable, rare and fragile materials acquired via purchase or gifts. These materials are located in the Special Collection Room on the 2nd floor of the Main Library at the Perak Campus. The materials are non-circulating. However, they are available for reference by users.
