Minimum Entry Requirements

Admission to UTAR is on purely meritocratic basis. You are expected to satisfy the academic qualification and English Language requirement set by the University. Some programmes may have additional requirements such as the submission of a drawing portfolio, and an interview before the University decides on the admission.

Academic Qualification Requirement

Academic qualification forms the core requirement and prerequisite for University's admission selection. Any relevant experience gained during work terms or attendance of short courses shall not be deemed as academic qualification.


For admission into undergraduate programmes, the University will accept the applications from students with the standard list of foreign qualifications. Please click here to view the list of foreign qualifications. If your qualification is not listed in the qualification table, you are welcome to write to us for enquiry.

For your information that the University has its minimum entry requirement (MER) for each qualification and each programme. Should you do not fulfill the MER, you will be required to undertake a one-year Foundation studies. Only after you have completed and passed the foundation studies, you can proceed to the first-year of the undergraduate programme.

Students with Diploma or Bachelor degree from another institution will be considered for credit transfer or advance standing subjected to the review and approval of the University.

 

Generally, the minimum entry requirements are as follows:

  1. Bachelor's degree with Honours in related areas from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman or any other university recognized by the Senate; or
  2. An equivalent qualification from an institution recognized as of comparable status by the Senate; or
  3. A degree or equivalent with at least two (2) years working experience after obtaining that degree, or equivalent 'two' (2) years working experience' means any working experience after obtaining that qualification which period shall also include practical training and any industrial attachment.

Interview will be part of the application process for admission into UTAR Master's degree. Hence, applicants are required to attend interview of needed. Interview would be in any range of methods depending on the needs for admission.

Generally, the minimum entry requirements are as follows:

  1. A Master's Degree from UTAR and show evidence of adequate related research or work experience to this satisfaction of the Senate; or  
  2. A Master's Degree from another University or equivalent qualification from an Institution as approved by the Senate and shows evidence of adequate related research or working experience to the satisfaction of the Senate; or  
  3. Any other qualifications equivalent to (1) or (2) as approved by the Senate.

Interview will be part of the application process for admission into PhD. Hence, applicants are required to attend interview of needed. Interview would be in any range of methods depending on the needs for admission.

The medium of instruction for most programmes is English Language. Therefore, we need to ensure students admitted are able to cope with their studies.

All international students have to achieve a satisfactory standard in a University-approved test in English. Students do not fulfill the English Language requirements will need to enroll and pass the English Enhancement Programme as a prerequisite before studying a proagrmme.
