Department of Alumni Relations and Placement (DARP)
The Department has good industry links and trained personnel to assist and counsel students for job placements. It provides student industrial training placements where relevant, organises career fairs and offers information on postgraduate studies and financial aid. Department of Soft Skills Competency (DSSC)
Working closely with industry partners, we understand what employers are looking for among fresh graduates, and helps students to acquire necessary skills to succeed in life. Departmet of Student Affairs (DSA)
This Department arranges a series of student activities which are held within the university and at inter-university levels such as sports, competitions and also student clubs and societies.The Department also has a team of qualified counsellors to provide counselling services to students and arrange the campus adjustment talks, peer mentoring/helping programmes and many others. Most of the programmes are conducted in English Language except for programmes like Chinese Studies, Journalism in Chinese Media, and Chinese Medicine which are taught in Chinese and English languages. Students have the opportunities to learn foreign languages such as French, German, Thai, Japanese, Korea or many others as part of the programme requirment.
Students who need to enhance their level of English language proficiency can attend English language courses offered by the UTAR's Centre for Extension Education (CEE). Among the programmes offered are English Enhancement Programme (EEP), English for Tertiary Programme and the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) Preparatory Course. UTAR is the one of the authorised MUET examination centres in Malaysia and hence our students will be able to sit for the examination at the familiar and comfortable campus setting.
Other languages such as Korean, Spanish, French, Thai, German and many others are also available at the CEE.
Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), under the Ministry of Education Malaysia, is the only authorised One-Stop Centre for handling the application, processing and issuing of Student Pass. It is mandatory for you to hold a valid student pass in order to study in Malaysia.
Typically, you need to apply to the University for the Course Admission first. We will issue an Offer of Admission letter to you if you are qualified. Once you have accepted the offer letter and pay the prescribed fees including visa processing fees, medical insurance, medical screening and immigration charges, we will help you to apply for a Visa Approval Letter (VAL) for you to get the entry visa and later student pass.
Documents that you are submitting must be clear and certified in accordance with the University and EMGS certification requirements. Any unclear or uncertified copies will delay the issuance of Offer Letter by the University and Visa Approval Letter (VAL) by EMGS.
The immigration rules of Malaysia also require a medical screening to be done within 7 days of entering Malaysia. The screening can be done at the panel clinic appointed by EMGS.
Medical and health insurance is mandatory and must be procured through EMGS for student pass application. As an international student, you are required to purchase one of the three insurance packages offered, i.e. Silver, Gold and Plantinum. More information is available to download here.
