Mau-Luen Tham was born on February 29. He received the B.E. (first class honors) in telecommunication engineering and Ph.D. degrees in wireless communications from University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2010 and 2015, respectively. In 2011, he was a Visiting Graduate Student with the Department of Electrical, Electronics and Information Engineering, Nagaoka University of Technology, Japan. After graduation, he joined MIMOS Berhad for one year, as a Senior Researcher in the Wireless Innovation Department. He is currently an Assistant Professor with the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman. His research interests include radio resource allocation, green communications, multimedia communications and machine learning. His research work has been funded locally and internationally, including MOHE, NICT and Embassy of France in Malaysia.

Dr. Tham received the Micron Semiconductor Asia Pte Ltd Book Prize Award in 2008, the Maxis Mobile Content Challenge Top 12 Finalists and Best Idea Award in 2008, the Huawei–Malaysia Scholastic Program Platinum Award in 2010 and the Japan Student Services Organization Scholarship Award in 2011. As a team advisor, he led his team to the first place in Asia and the fifth place at the Rohde & Schwarz Engineering Competition World League 2017 and Intel CREST Industry-University Challenge 2017, respectively. He has published more than five refereed research papers as a principal author, including IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology and IEEE Transactions on Green Communications and Networking. He also has one book chapter and two filed patents. He once served or is currently serving as a reviewer for several international journals and conferences, including IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, IEEE Communications Letters, Wiley International Journal of Communication Systems, Elsevier Computer Communications and EURASIP Journal on Image and Video Processing.
