Aniu promotes new movie at UTAR

After his debut success '初恋红豆冰Ice Kacang Puppy Love', local popular singer/actor/ movie director Tan Kheng Seong, better known as 阿牛 Aniu (Ah Niu), returned with a hilarious comedy '金童玉女The Golden Couple'.

Aniu again directed the new movie, which is a story set in a city where a young brilliant advertising executive (acted by Taiwanese actor Mike He) earns big bucks for his work, owning multiple credit cards and leads a lavish lifestyle. But due to poor financial management, his life soon turns into a debt-ridden nightmare.  Singaporean actress Fiona Xie played as the executive's girlfriend in the movie, while the rest of cast are mainly Malaysians and Singaporean.  The movie is due to hit the Malaysian cinemas from 13 September 2012 onwards.

Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) students had the privilege to watch the premiere of the 45-minute movie preview hosted by Aniu and 8TV 8 E-News host and UTAR alumna Chrystina Ng at UTAR Petaling Jaya campus on 24 August 2012.  The preview met with overwhelming turnout who jam-packed the hall.

After the preview, Aniu shared many of his valuable practical experiences with the audience and stressed that the young would revolutionise the Malaysian movie industry in the future.

"The primary criterion to become a director is to take proper care of your own health, having regular meals and answer to your 'nature calls' wisely to get rid of gastric and urinary tract diseases," said Aniu on how to be a good movie director.

He used to think that being a director was glamorous job, but soon he discovered that it was just a tedious mundane job.  He explained, "A director must be resilient as a lot of unforeseen circumstances may happen throughout the whole shooting process.  Examples are irregular weather, pricey venue rentals, budget and time constraints, cast coordination difficulties and so forth."

Suddenly a mobile phone rang in the audience, and the witty Aniu said, "Ever since I took up this [director] role, I started to become grumpy, especially when I heard cellular phone ringing tone during my shooting, impulsively I would want to smash that person but I did't even have time to do that."  He added that a good shot would require great collaboration from all crews, and some shots would require more than 20 takes, thus if an excellent shot was spoilt by an unwanted phone ring, it would be extremely disappointing.

Aniu urged the audience to support local productions by watching the original film at cinemas nationwide.  He stressed that the new movie should not be mistaken as the sequel of 'Ice Kacang Puppy Love', as they had different themes, styles and shooting techniques, and audience should step into the cinema to watch it with a fresh mind.

The movie preview was organised by UTAR Faculty of Creative Industries and Primeworks Studios Sdn Bhd.
