UTAR wins seven medals in Tang Soo Do championship
The Tang Soo Do team from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Perak campus brought cheers to the university when they won seven medals - one gold, two silver and four bronze at the 21st Perak Tang Soo Do Championship which was held at SMK St. Anthony Teluk Intan on 1 July 2012.
In the championship organised by Perak Tang Soo Do Association, budding Tang Soo Do exponent Fong Yap Han outpunched his opponent to clinch the gold medal in the male black-belt level individual free sparring event. Fong, an Advertising student, also won a silver medal in the male black-belt level individual formation event.
Chen Choy Soon, a Foundation in Science student, secured another silver medal for the team in the male black-belt level individual free sparring event.
Accounting student Tan Tze Xiang bagged two bronze medals in the male black-belt level individual sparring event and male black-belt level individual formation event. Chook Kar Hui, who is pursuing Foundation in Science, contributed a bronze medal through the female black-belt level individual sparring event. Fong, the biggest winner of the team, also nailed a bronze medal in the open free fighting event.
According to Fong, consistent training is the key to maintain the winning momentum. "I feel proud to have won three medals as all the efforts and trainings have paid off. Hopefully, I can perform better at the national championship," gushed Fong, who is one of the three exponents chosen to represent Perak at the National Tang Soo Do Championship which will be held in Kuching on 14 December 2012.
