UTAR graduand receives Synthomer Best Chemistry Graduate Award

Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Faculty of Science graduand Khoo Hooi Tee received the Best Chemistry Graduate Award from the Synthomer Sdn Bhd at an award presentation ceremony held at UTAR Perak Campus on 25 July 2012.

Khoo received a cash award of RM3,000 from Mr Minhat Wahid, Director of Human Resource and Administration of Synthomer Sdn Bhd, witnessed by UTAR Council Chairman Tun Dr. Ling Liong Sik, UTAR President Ir Professor Academician Dato' Dr. Chuah Hean Teik, Dean of Faculty of Science Associate Professor Dr. Lim Tuck Meng, UTAR staff and students.

"The sponsorship was part of the corporate social responsibility programme of the company," said Minhat. He also said that he would like to see UTAR graduates joining the company in the future.

"This is the third time Synthomer awards are presented to UTAR students," said Prof. Chuah. He congratulated the award recipient Khoo for her excellent achievements and thanked Synthomer for sponsoring the award.

Khoo has successfully completed her Bachelor of Science (Hons) Chemistry with First Class Honours in May 2012 and will be attending the convocation ceremony in October 2012.

"I would like to thank all my lecturers, tutors and my final year project's supervisors for their continuous guidance throughout my university days," said Khoo, adding that her lecturers were very supportive and helpful when she consulted them.

"I will save the cash award for my future advancement," continued Khoo, adding that she planned to pursue her master's degree in Chemistry after working for two years."

A career talk, titled, "Career Opportunity for Chemistry Graduates" was also held prior to the award presentation ceremony.

Synthomer is one of the world's major suppliers of latices and speciality emulsion polymers supporting leadership positions in many market segments including coatings, construction, textiles, paper and synthetic latex gloves.
