As part of UTAR's continuous efforts to create a safe and secure learning environment, the University recently organised a visit to the Sentul police station to learn more as well as to share and exchange views with the police in regards to personal safety and crime prevention. The event also provided an opportunity for the representatives of PDRM to obtain feedback from the University personnel.

The UTAR team led by Dr Tan Hock Meng, the Vice President of Services and Facility Management, included members of the Student Representative Council, the Department of Student Affairs, the Faculty of Engineering and Science and the Department of Safety and Security. The OCPD of Sentul police district, ACP Zakaria Pagan and his team were on hand to share their views on ways to prevent or minimise crimes from happening. The team took the opportunity to request for:

  1. increased police patrols in the vicinity of the KL campus.
  2. the setting up of a "Buku Melawat" in KL campus.
  3. more talks/exhibitions on crime prevention and safety awareness.
  4. regular dialog sessions with the students and management of UTAR.

Other planned initiatives include the formation of "Rakan Cop" and the "Unit Sukarelawan Police". Students and staff are encouraged to sign-up as members. The University will also strengthen links with the police in the districts where the Bandar Sg Long and Petaling Jaya Campuses are located.
