English Immersion Programme

Learning a foreign language such as English Language has its assets, and studies suggest that immersion is an effective way to learn foreign languages. The English Immersion Programme (EIP) conducted by Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) emphasises primarily the oracy skills (listening and speaking) followed by the literacy (reading and writing) skills. The language content of grammar and vocabulary are also included because they are inherent in the teaching of the skills.

UTAR’s EIP is combined with fun and stimulating cultural activities and tours to famous tourist attractions in Malaysia such as ageless architectural buildings, beach, virgin tropical jungles, natural recreational parks and museums. Our cultural and natural heritage are both irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration. The participants will discover the rich natural and cultural resources of Malaysia by taking in-depth tour to visit tourist attractions in Perak state and get unique experience and better understanding of Malaysia. The participants can visit and explore the architectural heritage, temples with different types of architecture, sandy beach and Malaysian Small and Medium Enterprise.

It is also a great experience when the students are given the opportunity to learn the true culture and lifestyle of Malaysia through the Homestay Programme. Homestay Programme is an experience where students stay with selected families, interact and experience the daily life of these families whilst experiencing the Malaysian culture. The Homestay concept is focused on lifestyle and experiential tourism. The uniqueness of the traditional songs, dances, cuisines and sports as well as rural economic activities are the main attractions and offers unique experience to the students compared to the experience in the city.
