3. How can I obtain the Admission Application Form?
The Admission Application Form is obtainable in 4 ways:
(i) In person
The Admission Application Form can be purchased from our Division of Finance's counter in all UTAR campuses at RM10 per set.

Alternatively, it can also be purchased from the following Tunku Abdul Rahman University College Campuses:

You may request for it via mail by cutting out the advertisement in major local dailies and sending it to Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman at PO Box 11384 , 50744 Kuala Lumpur . You are to enclose a 15" X 10" self-addressed envelope affixed with RM3.50 stamp and a postal order/money order of RM10.00 in favour of " Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman " for each set of Application Form requested.
(iii) Via Internet
You may also download the Admission Application Form from the University's website at http://www.utar.edu.my and log in "Admission Application Form" under "Admission" tab.
(iv) Online
You may also apply on-line via University's website at http://www.utar.edu.my and log in "On-line Application Form" under "Admission" tab.
Supporting Documents for Application
4. What documents are required for application?
Completed application form must be submitted together with the following documents:
  1. Certified true copy of actual/forecast SPM/Other equivalent results;
  2. Certified true copy of actual/forecast STPM/A-Levels/SAM/CPU/UEC/Other equivalent results;
  3. Certified true copy of School Leaving Certificate;
  4. Certified true copy of Birth Certificate;
  5. Certified true copy of Identity Card;
  6. Certified true copy of MUET (compulsory for STPM holders);
  7. A non-refundable processing fee of RM60.00 in money order/postal order/bankdraft made payable to "Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman". (Please note that personal cheque/cash is NOT accepted);
  8. Self-addressed envelope measuring 7" X 10" affixed with a RM1.00 stamp; and
  9. Self-addressed envelope measuring 3.5" X 6" affixed with a RM0.80 stamp.
  10. 1 copy of passport-sized photograph to be affixed on the top right-hand corner of page 1 of the download application form/OMR(Optical Mark Recognition) form.
If you are using other equivalent qualification(s), for example, Diploma or Advanced Diploma from a College/Institution/Polytechnic, you are also required to submit together with the application form:
  1. Certified true copy of Certificate of Awards;
  2. Official academic transcripts;
  3. Course structure and syllabi;
  4. Official letter from Private College/Institution of Higher Learning on the Standard Minimum/Accreditation from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA); and
  5. All relevant information and materials related to your previous studies from SPM onwards.
Applications submitted without the above documents will be processed for normal admission without any consideration for credit transfer.
Status of Application
5. How do I check the status of my application?
The status of your admission application will be posted on-line 7 working days after the receipt of your duly completed application form.

You may check the status of your application on-line via University's website at http://www.utar.edu.my and log in "Admission Application Status Enquiry".
Incomplete Application
6. How do I know whether my application is complete?
Where an applicant has submitted an incomplete application, he would be informed of it:
(a) through mail, of which a sample is attached below:
Kindly be informed that we are unable to process your application as there is/are outstanding document(s) which have not been submitted to us:



Kindly submit the abovementioned documents to us within 7 working days from the date of the receipt of your application form by the University.
(b)
Alternatively, you may check the status of your admission application posted on-line 7 working days after the receipt of your duly completed application form via University's website at http://www.utar.edu.my and log in "Admission Application Status Enquiry".
Entry Requirements
7. What are the general requirements for entry to Foundation Programmes at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman?
A candidate having fulfilled the minimum entry requirements stipulated hereinbelow shall be eligible for consideration for entry into the Foundation Programmes:-

For the programme of Foundation in Science, the following are the minimum entry requirements:-
  • Pass SPM with 5 credits which must include Mathematics and two Science subjects; OR
  • Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) with Grade B in 3 subjects which must include Mathematics and one Science subject; OR
  • O-Level with credit in 5 subjects which must include Mathematics and two Science subjects; OR
  • Other equivalent qualification approved by the Senate.
For the programme of Foundation in Arts, the following are the minimum entry requirements:-
  • Pass SPM with 5 credits; OR
  • Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) with Grade B in 3 subjects; OR
  • O-Level with 5 credits; OR
  • Other equivalent qualification approved by the Senate.

8. What are the general requirements for entry to Bachelor Honours Degree Programmes at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman?
Subject to such additional qualifications required for each individual degree programme offered by the University, a candidate having fulfilled the minimum entry requirements stipulated hereinbelow shall be eligible for consideration for entry to Bachelor Honours Degree Programmes :-
  • Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) with minimum 2 principal passes; OR
  • Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) with Grade B in 5 or 6 of the relevant subjects; OR
  • A-Levels with minimum 2 passes in the relevant subjects; OR
  • South Australian Matriculation (SAM) with a Tertiary Entrance Rank of 70 and Grade B in 2 of the relevant subjects; OR
  • Canadian Pre-University (CPU) with an average of 70% in 6 of the relevant subjects; OR
  • Other equivalent qualification approved by the Senate.
9. I am a Diploma holder. Can I apply for admission into Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman?
Such applications shall be considered on a case-to-case basis . Successful applicants may be admitted with credit transfer, where applicable.

Certified copies of the Certificate of Awards, official transcripts, course structure, syllabi, samples of past examination papers and all other relevant information and materials related to the application are to be enclosed. Applications submitted without the above documents will be processed for normal admission without any consideration for credit transfer.
10. I have only SPM qualification. Can I apply for admission into Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman?
Applicants holding Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia Vokasional (SPMV) qualifications may also apply. Successful applicants will be required to undertake the Foundation Programmes conducted at both Petaling Jaya and Perak Campuses. Upon successful completion of the Foundation Prgrammes, students will then proceed to the corresponding Bachelor Honours Degree Programmes courses.
11. What is the English Language Requirement of the University?
Most programmes would normally require a credit or relevant score in English Language in one of the following examinations:

12. When is the next intake?
The next intake is May 2014. In general, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman has three intakes in a year ie January, May and October Intakes.

Fees
13. What is the mode of payment of course fees?
Payment of fees can be made:-
(a)
at the Division of Finance, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman
(b)
by Bank draft/money order/cheque for the exact amount as stated on the student bill made payable to "Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman" and sent by mail. Do not remit cash.
(c)
at any Public Bank branch throughout Malaysia
(d)
through Public Bank's e-Banking Service known as PBeBank.com
14.
I have missed the deadline for the payment of fees. Can I still pay?
You are required to submit a written appeal for late registration to the Department of Admissions and Credit Evaluation. The outcome of the appeal depends upon the availability of places.
Accommodation
15. Does the University help out in accommodation?
The Department of Student Affairs (DSA) assists students in obtaining accommodation in the manner as follows:

DSA Accommodation List
DSA has compiled a list of available accommodation within the vicinity of the campuses, i.e. around the Petaling Jaya area (Section 17, Section 14, SS2 and Section 19), Setapak and Bandar Sungai Long etc. The accommodation includes single-storey and double-storey houses, flats, apartments and condominiums.

DSA provides a list of Estate Agents, who may help you get your choice of accommodation.

Financial Assistance
16. Are there any scholarships and financial assistance?
A wide range of financial assistance is provided by the University and appropriate advice and information can be obtained from the Division of Examinations, Awards and Scholarships (DEAS) or from the University Website at http://www.utar.edu.my.
Leave of Absence
17. How do I apply for leave of absence from my study?
You are required to submit a duly completed Application for Leave of Absence Form obtainable from the Department of Admissions and Credit Evaluation or the Faculty General Office or Centre for Founation Studies. Approval for such applications is not automatic but determined by the University on a case-to-case basis .
18. Can I transfer the fees paid for the current trimester to the trimester where I resume my course?
Where an application is made for leave of absence before the fifth week of trimester, all fees paid is transferable to the trimester the student rejoins his course.

For applications made after the above deadline, all fees paid are non-transferable except under extenuating circumstances approved by the University on a case-to-case basis .

Withdrawal from the University
19. I wish to withdraw from the University. What is the procedure on withdrawal?
You are to submit a completed Notification to Withdraw from the University form obtainable from the Department of Admissions and Credit Evaluation or the Faculty General Office or Centre for Foundation Studies.
20. I wish to withdraw from the University. Will my fees be refunded?
Where a student withdraws before the commencement of the trimester, there will be a 70% refund of tuition fees and full refund on Caution Money upon a written request.

For withdrawal upon the commencement of the trimester, only the Caution Money will be refunded upon the written request.
 
21.
I have withdrawn from the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman. Now I would like to be reinstated as a student of the University. What should I do?
You will be required to submit a duly completed Application for Reinstatement Form obtainable from the Department of Admissions and Credit Evaluation or the Faculty /Centre for Foundation Studies General Office. Reinstatement is not automatic but shall be determined by the University on a case-to-case basis .

What should I do if I wish to transfer to another Bachelor Honours Degree course at UTAR?
You must:
(a) firstly have paid the full fees and registered as a student of the University in the course stated in the letter of offer; and
(b) meet the minimum entry requirements of the course which you wish to transfer to.
The Course Transfer form is obtainable from the Department of Admissions and Credit Evaluation or the Faculty General Office.

The closing date for submission of such applications is normally at the end of the second week post commencement of the trimester for new students.

Successful applicants who wish to accept the course transfer are required to pay the course transfer fee (compulsory) and difference in tuition fees (where applicable).

You are only allowed to commence your study in the course applied for upon official notification from the University to the effect that your application for course transfer is successful.

Transfer to same stream of study (Foundation Programme)

I am currently pursuing, for example, Foundation in Arts leading to Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons). I would like to transfer to Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) Accounting. Can I do that?
You may apply for course transfer in the final trimester of your Foundation Programme. All applications must be accompanied by photocopies of Notification of Results slip and will be considered on a case-to-case basis.

Transfer to different stream of study (Foundation Programme)

You are required to apply for the course transfer in the first trimester itself. Applications are considered on a case-to-case basis.
You must:
(a)
firstly have paid the full fees and registered as a student of the University in the course stated in the letter of offer; and
(b)
meet the minimum entry requirements of the course which you wish to transfer to.
The Course Transfer form is obtainable from the Department of Admissions and Credit Evaluation or the Centre for Foundation Studies.

You are required to apply for a course transfer by submitting the Course Transfer by Existing Students form, certified true copy of your entry qualification and all Notification of Results of all your examination sittings at UTAR. Applications are considered on a case-to-case basis.

Campus Transfer
27. How do I apply for campus transfer?
Campus transfer is allowable only for Foundation Programmes and it is subject to availability of places.

Applicants must have been offered a place before applying for a campus transfer. To apply for a campus transfer, he is to submit a photocopy of his Letter of Offer together with the application form.

Successful applicants are required to confirm acceptance of transfer by completing the "Acceptance of Transfer Section" in the Letter of Offer for Campus Transfer.

Failing which the offer for the campus transfer lapses and becomes null and void and the applicant is deemed no longer interested in the approved campus transfer.

The application for campus transfer closes at the end of week 2 of each trimester.

28. How do I apply for credit transfer?
The application for credit transfer is to be made together with the application for admission to the University. Certified true copy of the following documents must be submitted together with the Application Form:
(a) Certificate of Awards;
(b) Official academic transcripts;
(c) Course structure and syllabi;
(d) Official letter from private college/ Institution of Higher Learning on the Standard Minimum/ Accreditation from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), formerly known as National Accreditation Board (LAN); and
(e) All relevant information and materials related to your previous studies from SPM/SPMV onwards.

29. What is this Medical Report?
This Medical Report is compulsory for all NEW students and can be examined by any private or government doctors. Thereafter the completed Medical Form is to be submitted during the 1st day of the Orientation Week:
